Astanga yoga
This is the discipline that gave Madonna her fabulous post-pregnancy physique and, she says, a more compassionate outlook on life.
Forget gentle stretching. With Astanga yoga you work hard and heat the body. The theory is that warmed muscles can stretch further. You also use a special breathing technique called Ujiyaii breath, and develop core muscle techniques called bandas.
An Astanga class is more or less the same where ever you go in the world. A class begins with two versions of sun salutations. There are a series of standing postures. You then work your way through seated postures and finish up with a well-deserved relaxation.
Over time and with a regular practise, you can expect more lightness, strength, fluidity, better concentration, a calmer and more compassionate outlook, less fat and greater flexibility.
With dedication, you will change your whole body shape, bring a deeper sense of peace and connectedness into your life and boost your health and vitality.
