Yoga For Kids

The pace of our children's lives can have a profound effect on their mental health and joy - and sometimes not for the better. Yoga helps bring the inner light that all children possess  to the surface. It also calms their nervous systems down.

In yoga classes children learn yoga techniques  in fun, age-appropriate ways.  Most yoga poses use nature as source of their inspiration - the sting of a scorpion, the grace of a swan, the grounded stature of a tree.

Children love embodying animals and pretending to be trees. What's great is they can get a deeper sense and acceptance of all aspects of their character through practising them.  When they assume the pose of the lion (Simhasana) for example, they can roar loudly, and go hunting. The next minute they are practising 'being quiet as a mouse' or playing 'going to sleep.'

Children derive enormous benefits from yoga. Physically, it enhances their flexibility, strength, coordination, and body awareness. In addition, their concentration and sense of calmness and relaxation improves, plus, most kids just find it really, really fun.

Rachel has trained with the super-fantastic Relax Kids organisation. She can provide yoga mats, relaxation cds, and advice to parents where necessary.
